Rock Island, Ill. – The Church of Peace in Rock Island, Ill., celebrates its church building’s centennial year with a special worship service with the theme “Gather at the River” for Rally Day on Sunday, September 9, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. Presenting a festival of hymns with the theme of “river,” the church’s choirs and instrumental ensembles perform and lead congregational singing in a variety of styles from jazz to gospel.
The day begins with complimentary breakfast served from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. and activities for children.
This special church service is part of the new community-wide celebration called East West Riverfest. The new East West Riverfest is a new ten-day celebration of the arts, culture and heritage offerings that thrive in the Quad Cities along the Mississippi River. The event’s name was chosen to reflect the fact that in the Quad Cities the Mississippi River flows east to west. From September 7 to 16, 2012, over 300 events will take place at over 60 various theaters, music venues, galleries, historic sites, parks, libraries, churches, and attractions on both sides of the river in the Quad Cities.
